How I Write on Medium to Fight Procrastination

We all procrastinate since our brain has the tendency to value immediate rewards more than future rewards. I believe the best solution is to link future rewards with immediate rewards(later I know it is called temptation bundling in this post). For example, when you were a kid, you put candy in front of you(or in your mother’s pocket, just in case you might eat it right away) and said to yourself: “get the homework done, and you can eat that candy.” I am not sure if it is good, but it works anyway.

Now I notice writing on Medium is like eating that candy. Here are my reasons.

  1. This year, I realised documentation is quite important(here is the post), and writing on Medium is like documenting in some way. So I decided to write one post each week, and I’ve been doing so for 5 months. It’s useful, I often check my own post to see how to configure something.

2. Secondly, I surpassed 100 followers so I get paid when people read my post (Although very little of money).

3. Besides, once you post, it immediately got read or clapped. Yes, immediate rewards here.

Most important, those immediate rewards link to future rewards, because you are gaining knowledge and building skills for the data science career through trying all those applications, libraries, and codings, and…
