My study centers on traffic simulation, aiming to create a digital twin — a virtual replica that closely mirrors real-world traffic dynamics and environments. This digital twin approach provides a highly controlled and flexible setting for researchers to experiment with and analyze scenarios that may be too costly, complex, or even risky to replicate in the physical world. By leveraging advanced simulation tools, researchers can explore how traffic patterns react to various factors, test the potential effectiveness of new interventions, and assess improvements to road use and safety, all without disrupting real-world traffic or endangering public safety.

1. 1 The Concept of Digital Twins in Traffic Simulation

In the context of traffic simulation, a digital twin replicates real-world conditions in a detailed virtual environment, enabling researchers to simulate complex traffic flow, vehicle interactions, congestion, and even scenarios with specific incidents or weather variations that impact road use. With a digital twin, researchers can explore “what-if” scenarios, experimenting with potential responses to new road layouts, signal timing modifications, and other proposed interventions. Beyond simply replicating visible elements, digital twins also capture…
